“US Airways will reintroduce a second Saturday flight in December. US Airways flights will operate from Philadelphia/St. Kitts/North Carolina/Philadelphia and the second flight will operate Philadelphia/North Carolina/St. Kitts/Philadelphia,” Prime Minister Douglas said.
He said SkyService will begin its seasonal weekly flight from Toronto, Canada to St. Kitts starting 17 Dec., and continuing until April next year.
American Airlines which operates from Miami to St. Kitts on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, will introduce a Saturday flight from Miami International today with the possibility of a flight on Thursdays starting in December.
Dr. Douglas said Excel Airways will continue its scheduled Gatwick-London flight to St. Kitts arriving on Saturday afternoons and regular charters by PANAM and the occasional BWIA charters will operate on demand.
LIAT, WINAIR, Caribbean Sun and Caribbean Star are expected to increase flights into St. Kitts, especially during the Carnival season. Airport officials also anticipate an increase in the arrival of corporate jets.
The US$17 million project financed by loans from the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank and the Republic of China on Taiwan, includes expansion of the parking apron to accommodate six-wide-bodied aircraft at the same time, complete resurfacing of the 8,000-foot runway and construction of a new taxi-way. Construction starts this month and the project is expected to be completed by November 2006.
