Ventura County District Attorney's Office investigators and members of the Southern California High Tech Task Force arrested a 28-year-old Port Hueneme woman for allegedly stealing more than $117,000 from her truck driver boyfriend when the two lived together in Ventura, said Vinse Gilliam, deputy chief investigator.

Crystal Susanna Rayas, also known as Crystal Mendoza, was arraigned Friday on charges of identity theft, grand theft, forgery and credit-card fraud and faces up to 12 years in prison, Gilliam said.

When he became suspicious, Rayas manufactured a phony bank statement to convince him that the balance on one of his credit cards was zero, Gilliam said.

Rayas' former boyfriend learned after checking with the bank branch manager that his checking and saving accounts had been "virtually drained" as a result of the thefts and identity fraud.

Police executed a search warrant at Rayas' residence Thursday and searched a storage facility in Ventura and a private mailbox business in Oxnard, Gilliam said.

Gilliam said this identity theft case along with others have put the District Attorney's Office's Bureau of Investigation on a record-setting pace this year.
