Health hazards may include a leaky roof, a faulty heating system, rotten siding, weak floors, damaged rails and porch, leaky windows and doors, mold and mildew, faulty bathrooms and sewers, a need for rails and ramps for the disabled or similar hazards.

"The more people who show up and fill out the application, the more federal officials will see the needs for this area," said Alderman Norris Holly.

Grant or loan applicants must own the house for repair and live in it, provide proof of ownership and provide proof of income from Social Security, employment or other sources.

n Heard a concern by postmaster Barbara Morris regarding Coahoma Community College owing natural-gas payments to the town, and the mayor and Alderman Cedrick Tenney working at the college.

In response to Morris' suggestion, Washington asked the town attorney, Linda F. Coleman of Cleveland, to follow up with a letter to the college, to avoid any possible appearance of a conflict of interest.

n Heard from resident James Nolan, who expressed concerns including convict trustees reportedly being unsupervised at times while working around the town, abandoned or condemned buildings, a need for a curfew for youths and ditches with uncut grass.

Nolan said he hoped board members wouldn't take the suggestions personally, and that he and other residents were trying to help by bringing such concerns to the board's attention.
